The Educators Wales jobs portal began featuring vacancies from a diverse range of organisations from accross Wales' education sector (it’s now the biggest dedicated to education in Wales).

We welcomed our third Council, a new Chairperson, and new fitness to practise panel members.

We welcomed four new categories onto the Register of Education Practitioners.

June

Launched our new podcast, Sgwrsio with the EWC, featuring lively discussions, shared experiences, ideas, and perspectives on the ever-evolving landscape of the education workforce in Wales.

Met lots of registrants at events throughout the summer including the Urdd, Royal Welsh, and Eisteddfod Genedlaethol.

Published our suite of annual reports showcasing our achievements and performance as an independent, trusted regulator.

Published Annual Education Workforce Statistics providing comprehensive data on 88,000+ registrants.

ITE reaccreditation

A number of programmes of Initial teacher Education (ITE) are due for renewal in 2024. We hold responsibility for accrediting and monitoring programmes of ITE against Welsh Government’s Criteria for the accreditation of Initial Teacher Education programmes in Wales.

• check your staff are registered – remember, you must make sure that you only employ those who are registered, in the correct category for the work they do
• explore the guidance and resources available – from good practice guides to training and webinars, these tools can help your staff embed the Code in their practice
• check out how the PLP could support you and your staff – create and develop resources tailored to the unique needs of your organisation (more on that below)

FtP case studies

In our latest Fitness to Practise (FtP) case study, we look at an example of where a registrant was removed from the Register following a proven case of inappropriate behaviour towards learners. These case studies are based on real life examples and created to give registrants valuable learning points to uphold and comply with the Code, and protect their registration.

We publish information about upcoming hearings, and hearing outcomes on our website. Most hearings are held in public, which means you can join as an observer. Information on upcoming hearings and how to attend is available on the fitness to practise pages.

We have published a new good practice guide aimed at helping to support learners’ and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. The guide focusses on providing practical advice to help registrants identify when individuals may need help and to understand how to respond to their needs. We have also updated our good practice guide on registrants’ mental health and wellbeing. These guides, and all our other guides are available on our website.

To accompany the release, we will be hosting a briefing event which will include an overview of the data, as well as insights and key trends. For the first time this year, that will include information on adult learning practitioners and principals or senior leaders working in further education. Register your free place now.
