The Education Workforce Council (EWC) has welcomed two new members to its Council.
The EWC is the independent, professional regulator for the education workforce in Wales. It registers and regulates education practitioners across schools, further education, youth work, and adult/work-based learning. Its Council members include representations from across all registrant groups and are responsible for both setting the overall strategic direction for the organisation, and its governance.
The new Council members were appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Education following an open and fair recruitment process and will begin their new roles from 2 September, 2024. They are Karl Jones, Senior Lecturer in Technologies at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and David Edwards who is currently on secondment at Gwernyfed School in Powys.
The two join 12 fellow members who together, form the EWC Council. They are headed up by Chairperson, Eithne Hughes, and supported by a team of EWC staff led by EWC Chief Executive, Hayden Llewellyn.
Welcoming the new members, Eithne said, “I would like to offer a very warm welcome to both of our new Council members.
“As a Council, we play a valuable role, bringing not only support and direction, but scrutiny and challenge to the work of the EWC.
“The knowledge and experience Karl and David bring to their roles is invaluable and I look forward to working with them over the next few years.”
The current Council term began in April 2023.
Members of the public are welcome to attend Council meetings.
More information on the role of Council, or how to register an interest in attending a meeting, is available via the EWC website.
